“There’s a lot of ego and competition in the music industry,” says Alice, who has worked in the industry for 13 years and counting. “It’s a boys’ club. It’s hard to get women in the industry.” Her stance on being a part of the music industry, was that “if you’re going to put your heart and soul into it, you have to be open to criticism, and this industry in particular.”
She is a firm believer in how music changes an individual’s life. “Music inspires me, and I’m inspired by music,” Alice explains. “It gives me so much joy.” When she is not playing her musical instruments, she is a full-time organizer for the VOCALOID production company, “Fluid Music.”
Alice grew up listening to Wonder Woman comics and even entertained the idea of being a singer herself, a dream that was shattered in her late teens. Her musical journey began as a guitar player, but she transitioned into the digital world with VOCALOID software. “I started learning to play a music-making program when I was about 14,” she explains. “It was very different to learn to play from a book.”
Winging it with VOCALOID
Since she was new to the program, Alice started out using an expensive Yamaha sampling keyboard at a local music store. “It was such a pain in the ass, I had to play it so loud,” she says with a laugh. So she taught herself how to use the software, ultimately saving up to buy a Yamaha Vocaloid program from the U.K., “Alfred X.” “Alfred was the first vocaloid, and he was $1,000,” Alice recalls.
Alice’s first project was the “Dream Dome” song, a children’s educational song about dreams. In one of her best stories, Alice says she was invited to sing at a VJ concert and decided to sing her song. “I was really nervous about it,” Alice says. “But I went up and sang, and it was like a dream come true, because it was a studio recording with something I created.
Once you have set up your Internet site, you should always check it regularly. If there are changes that need to be made, do it. It is important to keep your site operating well, since it is where you will find your customers. If your site isn't working properly, you won't be able to find customers and you will have failed.
